Now it is not because he needs your money. The Bible says in
Psalm 50:10-12,"For every beast of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills. If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and its fullness are mine." God wants to bless His people. Of the 38 parables uttered by Jesus 16 of them relate to stewardship. In the Bible there are around 500 verses on faith, 500 hundred verses on prayer, but about 2,000 verses on stewardship. May this reinforce the reality that God is acutely aware of every facet of your lives. And every area of our lives is to glorify God.
Are you motivated by money? If so, you are in financial bondage. The Bible says in
Proverbs 23:4, "Do not weary yourself to gain wealth. Cease from your consideration of it." We ought to feel sorry for those who desire to get rich. The Bible says, "For where your treasure is there your heart will be also." The Bible says, "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you." Money and what we do with it says a whole lot about an individual. The Bible says, "For wealth certainly makes itself wings." Someone said, "Money talks." Listen, I'll tell you what it says, "Good-bye."
If you want to know just how wealthy you are, then you add up everything that you own that money can't buy and death can't take away, then you'll know. Are the things that you are living for worth Christ dying for? God gives you possessions to make you a steward. And it is time that we stop spending money on things that we don't need, with money we don't have, to impress people we don't like.
I heard about a corn farmer who had two boys who were always working in the fields while all the other kids were out having fun. One of the parents came up to the farmer and said, "Why do you work those boys so diligently all the time? You don't need all that corn!" The farmer said, "I'm not raising corn, I'm raising boys." Think about it. God is not raising money, He is growing Christians. One of the surest ways to know that you are a growing Christian is when you trust God with your finances. You can sing all you want to about loving Jesus, but the consecration that has not reached your wallet has not reached your heart. I love the bumper sticker that reads: "Tithe if you love Jesus, anyone can blow their horn."
In Christ, Brad
